Scanned photos

Hi,

I have spent all afternoon scanning all of our family photos onto the PC so I would have a spare copy on a disc, but I think I have done it wrong

I put 4 or 5 pics on the scanner at a time, thinking I would be able to copy and paste them into separate pictures but no can do. I have tried with picasso and the lexmark photo editor but when I cut out one of the photos, the rest disappear

Does anyone have any ideas of how I can seperate the pictures without resorting to scanning every picture individually? It will take me years to do it if I have to scan them all one by one

Thanks for any help you guys can give me :A

MBM xx

You can crop them with Irfanview. Open Irfanview, Press F1 and search for Crop.

When you cut them out, save them as a different name, eg

    Open File Page1.JPG
    Cut out picture 1
    Save as Page1_Pic1.JPG
    Then open Page1.JPG (again)
    Cut out picture 2
    Save as Page1_Pic2.JPG

    etc.

Would copy them all somewhere else first - always a good idea to have a back-up...

Where would you suggest I save them to? I have been trying to save them in paint, which is okay but its take ages and ages to keep opening new pages

Do you ever wish you had never started something

There are about 23 pages, each with 4 or 5 pictures on

I havent got a clue what resolution they are in, sorry.
Each page is around 1mb to 3 mb

Thanks again for your kind offer, but there is no way I could ask anyone to do this for me, it is going to take ages!

Could save them into a new folder - I think most paint programs remember the last directory you saved into (may also have a list of recently-used files which could speed up the reloading the originals), shouldn't be a problem putting them in the same folder as long you don;t click Save (instead of Save As).

I'd just use the fastest program - is Paint faster or slower than Picassa or the Lexmark editor? May be worth downloading IrfanView as Expresso suggested - it is pretty nippy.

    Thanks :D

I did download Irfanview and it has been working a treat for copying but I can't seem to work out how to paste into it, which is why I have been switching between that and paint :o

Thanks for everyone's help, I can always count on you lovely techie people!

Don't waste your time using Paint, Irfanview is far superior in every respect.

Before starting, make a working copy of all of your scanned images in a new directory so that your original scans are safe.

Open your first scanned image with several pictures on.

Crop using the crop tool and if necessary adjust the crop by putting the cursor over the horizontal or vertical edges. i.e. Edit, Crop Selection, File, Save as and give it a unique name in your chosen directory for the cropped images.

You don't need to paste into any program, simply save the cropped image as a new filename in a new directory.
