Accepting card payments without hardware

Hello all,
My question is quite simple.
Have you tried to take a payment from a customer remotely only for the payment to fail using a chip and pin terminal or mobile pos?
The problem is, 26% of the UK has no data connection, so a mPoS which relies on data connectivity is NOT suitable.
In these scenario's what do you do? other than ask for cash!
Thanks!

You can still get an old fashioned card payment scanner do-da from the banks. You put the car on the metal plate, put the graphite paper on top and swipe across. This copies the card number and you send it to the bank.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

Percentage of retailers or businesses without a data connection should be much less than that.judoWorkforce wrote: »The problem is, 26% of the UK has no data connection, loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -

This and if you have a enough of a signal or access to a landline you can even ring authorisations for an authorisation code.0 -

Do a quick google search, I am sure you will find this information easily.
Are you looking at data from 1999?
97% of UK Homes have a 3G signal from most networks. There's going to be very few businesses who are working far from where these homes are situated.
Also WiFi? You realise that's a hardwired thing, and I'm pretty sure 99.9% of all homes in the UK can get broadband.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

Indeed. If you're planning to set up a business where you will need to take cards then you will be looking at using landline options won't you?
I don't understand what the problem is.0 -

Exactly, perhaps the OP could actually provide the source that I asked for before, otherwise the entire thread is a waste of our valuable time.0
