Washing the dog

  • I've got to say, have you never been tempted to get her clipped but leave a mane so that she looks like a lion? I've always had fairly short haired dogs so never really had to deal with major grooming.

I don't think I could resist the temptation if she was mine. I think I'd be reaching for the clippers for a novelty cut:)

    nahhhhhhhhh never been tempted... lol

She used to be proper long haired believe it or not but after her THR (both sides) her fur changed to something weird.. She still got long "pants", behind the ears and on tail but the rest of her is short-ish now

GS coat keeps them warm in winder and cool in summer, GS coat should not be clipped

    Seen this?

  • Now that's what I'm talking about! That dog shouldn't be depressed, he looks ace!

Although, I've always wondered why german shepherds tend to have 'crimped' bits behind their ears. For years I thought my neighbour used to use hair crimpers on hers until I noticed a lot of them had little bits of wavy hair.

This poor dog was probably very cold, as I said before - GS fur should not be trimmed as it protects from heat in summer and cold in winter.

Crimped bits by the ears, yes, very GS and need to be brushed.. same with the "pants" sighhhh I could never brush mine one at home as groomers can with the blast dryer being used while brushing as the undercoat is massive, there was like 2 full carreir bags full of Zara's fur when I collected he

My GSD is huge (54kg) and I tend to wuss out and take him to the groomers now. However, in summer he's a menace if you get the hose out so gets an extra shower then. Take ages to dry though as he's very long haired!
