Agree with Yorkshireboy, it's more like 13 months max, not 6 years or no time limit, for claims for payments made by DD.
You might perhaps be able to pursue a claim through the Courts for a longer time, but a re-claim via your bank will be limited to 13 months.
As hazzanet says, this is very wrong.
While PSRs require a minimum of 13 months, the UK's Direct Debit scheme exceeds that. The text in the guarantee is clear that there is no time limit applied.
Nor do you need to deal with EH. Yours is an excellent example of why the guarantee exists. File a claim with your bank. There is a clause saying it may be reclaimed if you know you are entitled to the money (essentially if EH had a really strong case) - if you still had the confirmation of cancellation it wouldn't be unhelpful...0 -

I think you mean "maximum of 13 months".
I accept I got it wrong as I had only referred to the PSD. But as Archi Bald has pointed out in post 17, "In the UK a policy decision was taken not to change the unlimited period of the Direct Debit Guarantee."0
