Reducing height of a manhole cover

I need to reduce the height of a manhole cover as it is higher than the level of the rest of the garden. I know I need to remove a couple of layers of bricks, the problem is the manhole cover size is 67x52cm and the manhole itself is 79x54cm. Currently there is staggered brick work to compensate for this. Is there an easy way of reducing the size of the manhole to suit the cover as I am not a brick layer or should it be fairly cheap to get someone in.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

Firstly i'm not a builder but others will tell you if i'm talking ****,if you are confident in flaunching or bedding the frame back down you should be able to bed flat galvanised plate on your last course of bricks which will span the chamber itself but also carry the frame and cover
