I came across a disc that has my wedding photo's stored on it, It plays fine on the DVD player. However when I pop it in the PC it just will not play or allow me to view them.
The file is saying its a DAT file!
What do I need to open these files?

1) Do you have a DVD reader on the PC?
2) Open 'My Computer', right-click on the CD/DVD drive, select 'explore'. Are there any files or folders there? You might be able to manually navigate the CD this way and locate the photos.0 -
DAT files are usually linked to VCDs [video compact discs containing mpeg1 files]. This site explains it much better than I could in short time.
OTOH, it could also be a data file, similar to BIN or ISO files. You'd need a program such as PowerIso, WinISO, UltraIso, etc. to show the contents and extract the data. I'm quite rusty on that stuff, I guess the above mentioned utilities are shareware, you may use them for a while without buying (basically to get done what you need) or check out a site offering free utilities, such as no-nags.0 -
Just rename the DAT extension to mpg and it should play fine.0
