Slimming World - not flexible? Help

I think the original poster should get in touch with the consultant explain her concerns and needs and see if there is any flexibility there for her. If it is not going to work and there is no flexibility then its not for her.
You can get the books and support from many other sources so if going to the classes alone are the main problem then there are many other ways of doing it yourself alone.0 -
I will try and speak with a consultant; maybe I caught her at a bad time yesterday?
If SW cannot offer what I need at the moment, then I will certainly look into this a bit further, there is certainly a solution out there.
I guess I was so impressed with the books, and that my way of cooking and making sauces were replicated in the books on display. I just guessed it would be an easier transition with SW.
Still, there are other options mentioned in this thread.- Another conversation with a SW consultant

All I can say is that I feel better and I stopped gaining weight when I stopped eating white bread.

I can't comment on paeleo or what the Dieticians will tell you. But I follow the basic principles of SW and usually eat lean meat and poultry, fish, plenty of fresh fruit and veg and moderate carbs works for me. You can't go wrong with that.
I do allow myself good fats, avocado, nuts, salmon, nut butters etc and don't get too hung up with them.
I try to avoid processed meats usually but allow myself things like sausages every so often. Ready meals etc I also have once in a blue moon and try to cook everything from scratch.
I still eat treat foods such as chocolate, crisps, bread etc but try to chose better quality types and have them as treats as opposed to everyday.
I continue to eat takeaways and usually get one once every two weeks, meals out I generally have what I fancy now and try to be good the rest of the week.
So yeah I think if you make a plan for yourself from the literature you've gotten, the forums etc and plan and monitor yourself you will be flying.0 -
Most of my family joined Slimming World at the end of 2013. We have all had huge weight losses. A combined total of about 20 stone. It is good for weight loss.
I don't like everything it promotes, I do think it's good to go somewhere to get weighed. I am now a target member so don't pay. I just have to visit once a month and say within 4 pounds of my target weight to be able to go free of charge.
I am now at a different group to the one I started with. My new consultant is FANTASTIC. I know he would welcome someone like you who would maybe need to do it a different way. However my old consultant was maybe a bit offish. Have a look around at groups local to you, ask around. Most towns have one or two groups on the area.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.0 -

Great post, couldn't agree with you more. Take what you want from it, ignore the rest and make it work for you0 -
I am glad there are people not afraid to mix and match ideas, this is the type of person I am, I try an educate myself, then apply principles that fit in with my way of life.
As for people not agreeing with everything SW promotes, I think that is fantastic, otherwise we would just be robots following everything we hear and see blindly.
As for brands, look at the ingredients against unbranded, you might be shocked at what the manufacturers add.SW loss= 15.5kg / 2st 6.2lb0 -

Totally agree with this. And also, if you look at some basics/savers ranges of foods, you will find that there are less ingredients than in the branded stuff. Like on the eat well for less programme - out of the jars of pasta sauce, the value range one was the 'healthiest' one of them all with miles less sugar than the others.
I have just had a look at the weight watchers 'filling and healthy' plan and that seems quite good (similar in some ways to SW).
I also agree that is is about finding something suitable for you as an individual. I am going to try the WW one but tweak it to fit with my life. Will try this until I get my dietitian appt through (although to be honest, I am not greatly excited about that)!0 -
I just thought I would post an update.
I found the SW consultant inflexible.
I joined SW Online, I decided to share the access 50/50 with my mum who has past experience with SW. This has flexibility, knowledge & cost advantages.
So far so good, I am quite surprised how small changes to my existing diet are teaching me even healthier eating habits.
I have never eaten so much stir fry veg and fruit in my life, positive about this though.SW loss= 15.5kg / 2st 6.2lb0
