Reading your post I think its you not being flexible, not slimming world. And I think you are missing the point of the meetings, its not just about being weighed weekly, the meetings form part of their plan. It also encourages commitment, its ok to say, "but i will be committed", because the response then is, prove it by coming to the meetings. It's a really big part of what slimming world is about, and those that go and stay lose more than those who just pay and weigh.

    You can:
    Follow them online
    Go to the weekly meetings.
If you cant attend a meeting you can go to an alternative another day in your local area.
If you still can't attend you can take a holiday that week so you don't have to pay, though there are limited holidays per year.

That covers all bases, I have gone to the meetings in different cities before when I've been out of town working, I've also texted them just before a meeting to say I can't make it and take a holiday.

At the end of the day, if you don't like their model, don't follow it.

I am a solutions person, please don't be Judgemental on a person you have not met or know.
Maybe it's my situation and not me that causes some inflexibility?
I am incapacitated for a reason. 1-2 weeks sickness at a time is not unusual.
I am willing to be flexible because that's what I have to do every day. I just don't want to pay penalties for something I can do nothing about. SW could sweeten the cherry a bit for people with chronic illnesses.

All I want is dietry advice, I am not fixated on weight loss.
I am willing to pay for this, as SW in my eyes have hit on a successful: "How to eat and stay healthy" formula.
SW should be about my goals not their goals.
PS: I am asking a question in the subject, not making a statement about SW,
    not flexible?

I appreciate what you're saying about your illness but I still believe it is you being inflexible. I have chronic illness too but really, is it SW's fault you cannot use a computer?! Why don't you ring your local consultant and explain your circumstances and see what they can offer instead of assuming they won't offer anything and pretty much slating them on here? You can just stop going any time you want, you're not contracted.

Also, much as I think SW offer one of the best 'diets', I still don't think they're particularly healthy. Their encouragement of fat free, sweetener laden 'free' foods isn't that great tbh. Although. I do appreciate that you don't need to use these to stick to the plan.

Edited to add - SW IS ultimately about weight loss. If you want advice on healthy eating, go ask your gp for a dietitian referral (I have).

Also, I hate to say it but SW is what it is, why should it be about your goals when it is obviously very successful for lots of others? Your Ford analogy isn't really good. SW offer many options (colours of car) you just don't fit them whereas the majority do. As others have said, if it isn't what you want it to be, don't 'buy' it. Just like you wouldn't if you saw an item in the shop that you liked but didn't 'fit' you.
  • There are lots of ways of eating that dont involve paying 5 quid a week to go to a slimming club. I too don't think SW is the healthiest way of eating around. I do Paleo, its cost me nothing so far and Ive lost a lot of weight.

Slimming world does work for some people, many people, but it's certainly not your only option.

    Exactly.

And just look at the news today about Fat Guidelines 'Should Not Have Been Introduced'.

    I have never slated SW.
I have never said it is any ones fault that I have issues using a computer or that I am ill.
I did visit the SW venue last evening, but the info I received made me feeling I was not able to partake fairly.
This post an attempt to gain more info from others experiences, maybe gaining info from an SW consultant.
A dietitian referral - don't they follow government guidelines which can be incorrect?

Please close this post, I give up.

Thank you, I will look into Paleo.
I am of the opinion, you are what you eat, it's always good to check lifestyle and diet once in a while.

I think really any diet or healthy eating plan is there for you to take what you want and need from it and adapt it to fit your life and your principles.

I have been at sw for nearly 2 years, I have tailored the plan to suit me and there are large parts of the SW ethos & general principles that I don't like and concern me. I lost 6 stone after a year and have kept that off going between 6 & 6.8 stone lost max.

I don't stay for the meetings anymore afterwards as I feel that I have gotten all that I can from them. I really just go now to stay accountable on the scales as I personally do need that accountability of having to be weighed by someone else.

I also don't agree with the pushing of certain branded foods.

I completely agree with the OP that large parts of SW are not flexible and I do agree that an adaptable membership package should be allowed. Not one size fits all.

Its not for everyone, but you can tweak it to introduce more good carbs. Theres a site called whole 30 and a site called nom nom paleo which might be useful for you.

I have to say I feel much better eating this way than I have in a very long time, its just healthy eating and it allows for the occasional treat as well.

I gave you that information. I also suggested you speaking to your consultant to get the information. Ok, Saying "it is far from flexible" and "so much for SW presenting the lifestyle which I could fit around my life" may not exactly be slating them, but it isn't exactly complimentary is it?

I am not the only one who has expressed a similar opinion, it is shame you don't like it. We are not trying to be rude, merely honest in answering your questions.
