Mail redirection

Our mail is currently redirected from our property that we have let out & goes to my parents 3hrs away. We are overseas.
Most mail has been officially changed to care of my parents but they still get the odd redirected thing.
Redirection is due for renewal - options are 3, 6 or 12month but it is likely we will move back into our property in 4months.... Is it possible to cancel a redirection part way thru? I can't find anything on Royal Mail website?

Comments

  • Probably not. Best to just do it for 6 months. There will only be a 2 month overlap. :) And that allows a few weeks in case you're late coming back. As you have trusted them all this time, there's no harm in a few extra weeks is there? :) I'm sure they'll understand.

Alternatively, you can ask the at the post office, or ring the number on the letter you received to confirm your redirection, if you can cancel it early. (Like at 4 and a half months or something.)
No debt left now. Saved £111 in our sealed pot last year. And £272.13 this year! Also we have £2300 in savings. :j

    SPC #468 :D Target £250 for 2015.

    redirection FAQs

How can I cancel my Redirection?
    By email
If you have arranged your Redirection online and want to cancel the agreement, you can do so by forwarding your confirmation email to customerservice@your.royalmail.com from the e-mail account you used when making your application.

This process allows us to confirm that the request for cancellation is genuine and has not been made by another party. If a refund is due under our Terms and Conditions, then this will be made by reversing your online transaction after the agreement is cancelled.

    By post
Should you no longer have access to the original e-mail account, or have arranged your application at Post Office®, via post, or on our Helpline, your request needs to be made in writing to:

    Royal Mail Redirection Centre
    PO Box 944
    STOKE-ON-TRENT
    ST1 5DB
    United Kingdom

    How long does it take?
It takes up to 5 days for your cancellation to come into effect after we’ve received the request by post or email.

Email customerservice@your.royalmail.com to raise any other queries about the Redirection service.
  • Thanks Paully - I just couldn't find that info anywhere! Was clearly not looking properly!

It's not that we don't trust my folks it's just that as we change addresses back to ours, set up new phones, utilities etc we will want the post!

Your post raises other questions though:

    * who/how do the tenants pay rent? Into your bank? See
HMRC (Non Resident [= overseas] Landlord Scheme)

    * do the tenants have an address in Eng/Wales for you?

Landlord and Tenant Act 1987 S48

    * if you plan to move back in 4 months, do you know
    a) how to remove the tenants and
    b) how long it can take?

Tenants pay agent who transfers to our account. We get it before tax due to filling in NRL1i form & inc in our tax return.

Tenants have both letting agents address & my parents address for us, also email and our overseas address and phone number

We have prewarned the tenants that we will be giving notice when they asked recently about our plans. Planning to give S21 mid feb (tenancy runs from 18th) to get house back mid may, plan to move back mid June but don't have to be back in till end if summer so have plenty of time if they do become difficult.
