laptop or tablet for 85 year old

I would go for a tablet but I hear the arguments from the other side too.0

Ipad is expensive but fairly old people proof. My mum was always getting stuck with a laptop and android tablet due to it freezing or not sure what to press, but she got an iPad for her birthday and (touch wood) she hasn't had any problems with it since I set it up for her.0

If they can afford it go for a 10" iPad,it doesnt have to be the latest model, but certainly will get to grips with it easier than a laptop.
Check out who they have a telephone with, and look at basic Bband with wi-fi, could be cheaper than a mi-fi. However, if it is only to talk and no particarly to see folk in far off lands, then get one of the special numbers on Martin's list, I used 18185, both for overseas and daytime UK calls as only have free weekend and evening calls.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
A Chromebook would be ideal, sturdy construction, long battery, with a proper keyboard...very simple to use that my 3 year old can work it.
Very reasonably priced, the one we have is the Acer C720 which cost us £170.
Don't need to worry about anti virus as nothing can be downloaded
This is great for streaming TV as it has decent speakers and a good sized screen and a strong wifi connection.
I much prefer this to my wife's Ipad mini and my now departed Nexus 7.0 -

I'd suggest a proper computer with a mouse and keyboard.0

As the OP hasn't come back to update on this thread since posting almost a month ago, seems to be a bit pointless to add any suggestions.0

Perhaps he didn't make 86.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
My OH's dad is 85 - I would recommend a tablet every time. He finds it hard to control the touchpad and the mouse cursor is really difficult to see!0
