How can I cover myself?

  • Hi again - sorry to keep bumping my own thread.

Item has now sold through BIN.
I plan on waiting until the money clears from paypal to my bank account before posting via special delivery.

Is there anything else I can do to protect myself in case buyer claims INR? Will have tracking number etc I'm just conscious that I could potentially be left having to refund money + not have item.

You dont need to do that, and you might also annoy the buyer buy delaying posting

As an occasional seller your payment may be subject to Paypals 21 day hold and not be able to be withdrawn to your bank.
Check the payment is actually showing in your Paypal accont and it says safe to send and use Special Delivery or tracked courier.

I asked seller whether they'd be prepared to wait until money has cleared and they said not a problem. I didn't, however, realise that Paypal will mark as safe to send if they hold the funds so if that happens I'll post.

So long as the payment is in your paypal account you are ok to send as long as you send to the address on the paypal email you received.

Making the buyer wait is unnecessary and offers no additional protection.

Thanks - as I said, I don't sell much on eBay so wanted to make sure I didn't get scammed.

Many thanks to you (and everyone else) on your solid advice.

If you have read the sticky you will know if you are ok to send.

Does the Paypal transaction say 'ok to send' or 'eligible for seller protection'?

If so, then send it to the address on the Paypal transaction. Run the address through the Royal Mail address checker to confirm it's correctly formatted.

Waiting for funds is not part of the agreement. You have the funds in your Paypal, you need to send the goods.

Special Delivery or a courier with added insurance is what you need. Signed For does not cover £150 items.

Keep all your paperwork for at least 180 days.

Many thanks. I'd heard 'horror' stories regarding buyers requesting a refund from paypal even though the item is sent. Once it is marked safe to send I'll post the item.

Will make sure I send special delivery with the insurance.

Perhaps I'm reading the wrong sticky - is it the one with lots of posts? Seemed a lot to read through. Perhaps I'm missing a link.

As for the highlighted bit above, I am not sure what you mean. If you have the payment, you will know immediately if it is safe to send. Just log into Paypal and view the transaction, it will tell you there and happens the second the payment comes in, not afterwards.

I would be posting the item by special delivery to make sure it was covered by insurance in the post. Or by courier with the correct cover.

A few posters above have mentioned that it will state ok to send on the transaction.

Payment isn't being received until later on today - hence why I asked for clarification.
