Is 45000 a major "B" service or "A" (minor?) service

Just been quoted £500+ for 45,000 mile service on Mercedes C220 at Mercedes garage

I was trying to figure out whether to give it a major service or shorter service based purely on the mileage (pretend its only 6 months old

I had difficulty talking to the service woman because she had been programmed to sell me that service because of the age of my car which i didn't want to consider (just the mileage)

Just based on mileage intervals alone - would 45K be major "B" service or "A" (minor?) service
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

  • It's diffucult to say without knowing the service intervals. If it were six months old how many other services would you have had? If it's every 20k it should already have had two.

So what you're saying is that A service is every year/x,000 miles, B service is every second year/2x,000 miles - you're coming up to a B service due on age, but want to save money by not properly maintaining your car, and the pesky service receptionist at the main dealer is pointing out that your car is actually due the B service?

Mmm. I've got a better solution. Warranty clearly isn't an issue - since you'd be voiding it anyway by ignoring the service book - so no need to pay main dealer rates. So get a B service done elsewhere for probably the price of an A service at a dealer.
  • On the cars I deal with different things need changing at different mileages e.g. engine oil 12.5k, gearbox 62.5k, diff 37.5k and somethings are changed on time i.e coolant and brake fluid. So without knowing the age and the servicing schedule for the car how can anyone tell you?

    Look in the owners manual.

If you trade it in for a Hyundai i10 I'd imagine whatever type of service you get will cost a lot less than £500.

You haven't stated the age of the car, but.

Mercedes cars tell you which service they require, A, B or C and possibly D, E.

A is a minor service (little more than oil), B is major (generally every two years, A service plus air and pollen filters and brake fluid), C is B plus other items which are changed every four years (eg spark plugs, fuel filter etc). There may also be a D which includes 6 year change items.

    If you log on to:

    https://www.mymercedesservice.co.uk/home

you can enter your reg and it will let you know which service the car is due. At 45,000 miles, if it is an auto, it is advisable to do an auto gearbox fluid change.
  • LOL £500 for a service, I buy cars for less than that

I'm not even sure I have a warranty because I am second owner

Spark plugs and fuel filter, 4 year service? LOL
I'm not having some posters service my car.
Granted a SI engine doesn't need fuel filter changing as often, but 4 years, seriously!!?! Every year i'd be changing it. Spark plugs at every service that goes above oil+filter.

Crazy money on a service though.

Really? I once changed the fuel filter on a Montego VDP, at around 70,000 miles, cut the old one open and could see no dirt whatsoever. I'm not aware that my XK8, at 86,000 miles has ever had its fuel filter changed.
