O/S Daily Tuesday 10th February 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark, air feels chilly, looks like we have freezing fog. Load in WM.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, but is only working to late morning. DS1 now up and getting ready for work. DS2 now getting ready for school.

Dinner last night was Hunters Chicken, new pots, carrots, green beans, and peas. Ice cream for those that wanted some. Tonight is scampi, and chips for the menfolk and fish and jacket potato for me – planned this as not sure what time we’ll be back from a funeral myself and DH are going to, so thought something quick and easy would be a good option.

Work yesterday was very quiet for a Monday – almost scarily so, but we do generally get a short period of it being less busy at around this time. I’m on a day off today due to attending the funeral.

This morning I’m going to get the big car washed and need to get some cash out. Not sure if there’s any kind of plan for after the funeral, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Have a few other jobs I want to get done at home too.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Cold here again this morning but not as cold as it has been, walking round the site at work yesterday there were loads of spring flowers peeping out of the soil, wont be long till warmer days are here.

Off to work dinner tonight will be fish with new potatoes and peas, its some Lemon sole which was on offer, its really tasty but you don't get a huge bit so fill up on spuds etc.

Got to go to the post office tonight and post the ebay parcels, we had a good week, despite someone bidding on a collection only one, and then making a fuss when I would not post it !

Will do a wash tonight and hoover through downstairs.

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning all. Another frost free start but it stills feels decidedly chilly.

We managed our planned walk along the canal from Hebden Bridge but by heck it was cold, despite some blue sky and odd glimpses of the sun. Parts of the canal still had chunks of ice floating about! There are a lot of residential barges along that stretch so I hope they have a good heating system in them this weather! We managed to walk for about an hour before admitting defeat but instead of getting the bus straight back to HB we went onwards to Halifax for lunch instead. Then got the bus back to HB and just time for a warming coffee before heading back home. It's a bleak run back over the moorland and still lots of snow up there.

Doctors appointment today for my neverending uti problem. She must be as sick of seeing me as I am of going! I see the specialist again in March but quite honestly I feel it's a waste of time. Between Mr TA and myself we seem to have never been away from the surgery and hospitals this last couple of years.

Haven't christened either lunch or dinner yet. Freezers are both in the garage and it's a flipping cold job rummaging around in them this weather!

Have a good day all. Take care xx ps well done Dumpling I'm glad you managed to get there ok.

TA we were in Hebden Bridge yesterday but wished we hadn't gone. We were travelling back from our house between Settle and Skipton to Bedfordshire and decided to detour. We reckoned without the traffic hold-ups though and I only got to the meeting I needed t be at with 10 minutes to spare.

DD and fianc! have confirmed their venue, yippee, so we can go full steam ahead with the preparations now. She just needs to confirm her dress this week and we can relax a bit.

She's taking me to afternoon tea at the Mandarin Oriental soon, she has to review it for her job and I'm her lucky plus one.

    Have a good day.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's very cold here especially with the back door open so Meg can go out. I'm washing my furry blanket too so I have nothing to wrap up in. Just waiting for Tesco to deliver all my lovely healthy vegetables and fruit lol. I have a busy day planned with my CPN coming to see me this morning and then an old friend visiting me for lunch and a chat. We are also getting a new roof from the housing association. The whole estate is festooned in scaffolding and burly builders and today its my house's turn for the scaffolding to be put up. Frankly I am not looking forward to it and will be keeping my curtains closed until it's all done.

Girls and hubby have gone off to school/work ok and I'm just going to run the hoover round and tidy before everyone comes. My eldest DD passed her martial arts grading yesterday and is now a red belt so she is thrilled to bits. She probably won't be able to move much today so I don't know if she will be popping in or not. I'm very proud of her though as this is the only thing she has really stuck at.

Well tesco has just turned up so I will love you and leave you. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to. I also hope your UTI disappears Travelling Abuela and you start to feel better. Take care xx
  • Morning chums ,not too bad weatherwise here.I have a wash chugging away and another one ready to go on the line shortly. My dear sis-in-law came for the weekend and bless her unfortunatley she smokes (not indoors ) but all I can smell is cigarette smioke. She borrowed a fleese and I have had to wash that and also the clothes where she hung her coat up.I love her to bits and nag her dreadfully about her puffing but it doesn't seem to do any good.healthwise its not helping as she seems to be continually coughing. But I guess she give it up,hopefully before it gives her up.

I have a small bit of shopping to buy today plus a small fastening clip if I can for my youngest DGS scooter helmet.
So my purse will be prised open with much creaking :):):)
Hope you all have a great day and the rain or snow doesn't come near nor by

  • Morning, a dull and grey one here, hope the sum makes an appearance, I have towels to go out. Yesterdays laundry finished off on the airer, have to iron it now. I only iron sheets, pillows cases and duvet covers and the odd shirt OH wears, the rest gets folded and put away.

OH has a bowls meeting tonight, so early supper, its egg and wedges, so easy ans quick, we will eat around 5.30pm instead of after 6pm.

Scotch broth to do this morning with the bone from the shoulder of lamb from Sunday, lots of onion and carrots as well as some beans. I have had the broth mix and beans in soak since yesterday afternoon, so they have plumped up really well.

Better nghts sleep last night, so feeling a bit brighter.
  • Good morning all x
Well been up since the lark getting ready for an house inspection by our letting agent. House is now like a show home all shiny and fresh (wont last when they get in from work lol). So as it is not unitl 11 im making the most of a day off and baking up a storm. Already got sausage casserole in the SC and carrot cake cupcakes in the oven. Going to bake a batch of choc brownie fudge cookies in a bit. Might even knock up some bread rolls for dinner if the bug lasts that long lol.
Got DD1 and DGD popping in to see us this afternoon so i expect the cookies will vanish quick enough.
Anyhoo timer has just pinged on the oven, so hugs to all in need xx
    Bright Blessings xx
  • Morning all.

Just popped on to update my signature and then I'll be out to the shops. Very grey and damp here today, unlike yesterday which was a glorious day.

Still eating leftovers so cold chicken and salad bits for us tonight.

    Morning all,

slept brilliantly last night though I did have to sleep with the electric blanket on because I was cold. My bladder got me up once, Millie dogs' bladder got me up once but all in all I slept well.

Blasted cold out there. Theres a couple of jobs I want to do outside but I don't know if I'm brave enough.:D

Just bits and pieces to do in the house today. Not a great deal cause I did most of it yesterday.

Had a long conversation yesterday with an ex of my son. She's been living beyond her means since their son was born 12 years ago and its finally hit her as to how much debt she is in. Whilst I feel sorry for her having to bring up their son on her own I have to remind myself that she was not exactly blameless in the break up of their relationship and she has has finally reached her lightbulb moment. Whether she continues to bury her head on the sand or does something about it is down to her (though I understand the car is going to be sold).

Had to give Youngest a kick up the bum last night. The card he needs to get on a building site expires soon. He ought to have renewed it by now.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.
