bought a cheap 10" tablet from amazon (£85) as a present and 2 weeks on its been opened, and is poor to say the least. Watered down colours on the screen, speakers so weak you can hardly hear it even in a silent house, its, to be honest, awful. What are my rights please? I never complain about anything so not sure if i have any rights, and if I do, how i go about complaining as it isnt actually broken

"bought a cheap 10" tablet from amazon" what do you expect0 -
Just go into your account, go to your order and open a return request but it will be sent back at your cost.
Did you buy it direct from Amazon or from a 3rd party seller?
You wont get a good 10 inch tablet for less than £250.0 -

1280 x 800 screen on a 10" tablet isn't exactly earth-shattering.0

Depends what you want from a tablet, but I wouldnt say either of those would be good for most uses espicially films.0 -

Why not? The Transformer range gets good reviews for screen quality, I haven't had any issues when I've used one to watch a video.
What more would you want from a general purpose tablet?====0 -
Britishboy, 10" is quite substantial. Are you sure that you're disappointed, and not that it's just a little sore?0

The factories that produce the cheap rubbish unbranded Chinese tablets are the same that produce the prestigious overpriced rubbish I-pad's and Samsung's, the difference is solely in quality control. The materials are exactly the same [source: I've met several Chinese nationals who have worked in the trade].
Buying a cheap clone is a hit and miss, you might end up with a good one or a bad one. The quality is not intrinsically worse than other overpriced branded devices.

Gross generalization, however as with all half truths you might be right half of the times.

China is China is China.
It might be the same factory (or more likely factory complex/site) but the parts aren't the same a lot of the time.
Different models are put together using different combinations of parts, whilst it's true that the same screen might be used in different models, that doesn't mean the same CPU/GPU is running the screen, or that the same radio modules are used.
For example one manufacture might under their own brand have 3 different basic models, one with an intel Atom CPU, one with a 4 core ARM CPU and one with a 2 core ARM GPU, all will perform differently (and that's before you take into account what sort of graphics controller they're paired with, the screen, or which radio module is fitted*).
The average tablet design these days is fairly modular specifically so the design work to fit the parts together for whatever price point is wanted is relatively quick and easy for the manufacturing process.
IIRC a good 10" screen on it's own will set the manufacture back a goodly portion of £85, and that's before you take into account the fact that £85 is the retail price not what the manufacturer gets.
It's a little like most TV manufactures share the same basic panels these days, but the electronics driving the panels can make a huge difference in how they perform (even minor differences in how the lighting for the panel works, IIRC some more expensive sets have the LED lighting controlled in small groups to allow for better contrasts if one part of the display is meant to be dark whilst another light).
*For example it's relatively simple to choose between a BGN, BGN dual frequency (but only one can be used at a time), BGN capable of operating on both sets of frequencies simultaneously (usually needs two complete radio circuits), or BGN/AC module.0
