Vaping/ e cigs & life insurance

Does anyone know if any insurance company will class you as a non smoker if you use ecigs? My husband and I have been off cigarettes a year in March but Legal & General have just told me we are still classed as smokers.
Thanks

  • No. You need ot be NICOTINE free for a year not smoke free.

  • Depends whether you use nicotine cartridges with your e-cigs. If you do, smoker rates will apply. If you only use cartridges with no nicotine, some insurers will allow non-smoker rates.
  • You need to check the e cig and see if nicoyine or not - MOST e cigs have an element of nicotine of between 1%-10% - This makes you a smoker - You need to find a e cig that just has vapor and NO Nicotine

Fine for life cover where you're dead, but for critical illness cover be very careful that your cheap cover doesn't prevent you making a claim for a condition a better quality provider would have covered.

Make sure life cover is written in trust so the benefit is paid quickly to nominated beneficiaries; outside the estate of the policyholder so it doesn't create/add to an IHT liability and without the need for probate.

Thanks. Funnily enough i spoke to Beagle at the time and they ask about nicotine so it's a non-starter with them. I found this strange as both underwritten by same outfit. Think i mentioned this in my original thread.

Yes, my policy is just plain old life cover in my name only. I have kept my original cover with L&G in place as i thought this sounded too good to be true. I just view this as extra cover at a competitive premium.

Finally, thanks for the life cover tip about beneficiaries. I assume you should do this regardless of who you are with?? Sister-in-Law is a paralegal so i'll get her on the job.
