American Express Credit Card - No proof of PPI

I used to have PPI on an American Express Credit Card years ago but now the account is closed.
I sent a template off MSE to Amex requesting them to send me the original credit agreement but I received a reply advising me that they have no record of any PPI unless I can prove that I did have it.
Unfortunately I do not have any statements or paperwork and I only have my old credit card number.
Is there another way to prove I had PPI?
Thanks

The only thing you can try is sending a DSAR (data request) to them to see what they have left - if you have no records, complaint will be over - you don't need the agreement by the way, just samples of statements showing you paid it (it would be itemised on every bill where you didn't pay it off in full). The DSAR will cost you £10 and it may be wasted - 6 years after accounts are closed tends to be when data, if not delete outright, is at least archived out of reach of front line staff.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
