Just a quick one looking for some one to advice.
Last week purchased items from well known national chain, paid with creit card after using pin as normal.Got my receipt showing sub total£6.98 and then total debit the same £ 6. 98.
Got my monthly statement and the transaction is showing up as £16.98. I have phoned the store and they are looking into it and I phoned my credit card company.
Not a fortune I know but I am at a loss as to how this could happen as surely the amount scanned and produced on my receipt would go electronically to my credit card company.
Any thoughts as to how this might happen.

What amount was showing on the screen when you entered your PIN?
I hope you still have the receipt, preferably an itemised one showing the items adding up to £6.98.0 -
Could it actually be £16.98, and the printer that generated the receipt had a problem printing the 1? (e.g. the receipt shows £ 6.98 ... the gap before the 6 is where the 1 was meant to be).
Do you remember whether the total was 6.98 or 16.98?0 -

bod1467. I think you have nailed it.
I have had a closer look at the receipt and the first item shows £ 2.99 with space after£, the second item shows £3 .99 ( no space) and then total £ 6.98 with space again after£.
Difference being so subtle unless you know what you are looking for you would not normally notice it.
So it does look as though printer was faulty.
Thanks once again, you saved me looking silly, as I intended to go into the store to-morrow, "should have gone to Specsavers"0
