New clutch/flywheel - after only 6 months!

Hi

Bought a second hand Nissan Micra 1.2 Acenta in August. Mileage at time of purchase 2736.
Drove to parents (Caerphilly to Norfolk) at the end of January, experienced losses of power, cruise control and speed limiter failing, lack of acceleration etc.
Called the dealership in Cardiff where I bought it, informed that I could go to any Nissan dealership for assessment / work.
Booked in to local Nissan garage and after time assessment and re-assessment, paid £1171.94 for new clutch and flywheel.
The car is now better than it was when I bought it - was I sold a duff?
Apparently under Car Care Plan (the warranty I had when I bought it), "wear and tear" items are not covered.
Can I get any money out of Nissan at all??
Total mileage in 6 months - 5567 miles and even after that .. a brand new clutch and flywheel!!

  • Clutch and flywheel are recognised by most warranty companies as wear and tear items. I doubt you'd have any luck whatsoever with making a successful claim. Perhaps the person who had the car before you used to ride the clutch causing premature wear. Perhaps your own style of driving caused it.

It's done 8000 miles in total?
Being a Micra it might have had a first owner who redlined it all the way through 1st gear whilst slipping the clutch.
  • Did the garage that changed the clutch / flywheel highlight any issues other than wear & tear on the parts? As others have said it is possible with a poor driving style to wear out these parts in that mileage, and proving it's always been driven perfectly is very difficult. However I would have expected the garage to have checked why the clutch / flywheel needed replacing and if it was due to a manufacturing defect then it should be covered by warranty.

Low mileage used Micra, I'd put money on it being ex-courtesy or by the less honest term ex-demonstrator. Most likely had 100 drivers before it ended up on the forecourt, only takes one to screw it up.

I had the exact same model as a courtesy car recently, I actually preferred walking or even talking the missus C3 out. Got the garage to swap it for a Note, big improvement.

How old is the car? Never mind ex-demo, ex-courtesy car - I'd put money on it being one elderly owner who's now given up driving...

It was probably owned by my ex BIL's mum. She would revs the clappers out of her car reversing it off teh driveway every day..

Killed a brand new clutch in 8000 miles easy...
