Buyer clutching at straws for refund

During a wardrobe clearout a couple of weeks ago I sold a number of BNWT items in amongst some pre-worns

All were posted within 24hrs via Paypal with proof of postage from local PO

One BNWT item got a case raised within 72hrs for item not recieved including a curt message from buyer that 'in order to be resolved amicably' he'd need a full refund by the end of the week.

I agreed to do this if not received after 14 days and heard no more

On day 14 I now receive 2nd message on same case that item is fake - clearly not as it includes all original labels from supplying retailer with buyer demending refund and will return special delivery with me to pay

All I've agreed to is a refund of original price but suspect under T&C's I'm going to be stung for the lot despite proving delivery and showing beyond doubt that it's authentic

Item was £20 - for the extra £10 involved do I just bend over and refund the postage costs to save my feedback or challenge (in which case how ?)

Return needs to be tracked. If you are happy, advise them you are happy to accept myhermes, and can supply them with a label. You are under no obligation to pay for special delivery return.

I didn't think eBay forced sellers to pay for return postage?

This must be new then as even when the DSRs were introduced eBay didn't enforce the refund of return postage.
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

According to T&C's it appears I have to now - trust the buyer and all that :rotfl:

When a buyer has requested a claim for not as described with me, Ebay have added £2.80 to my fees to cover a return label which they have provided. I guess that is only if they open a not as described case.

Personally I would offer to send a pre-paid My Hermes or Collect Plus label for them to use and refund on return. Or say you will refund them up to second class recorded. You already have a defect for the not received case. It also sounds like you are going to end up with at least a neutral anyway. So I'd try and minimise the cost to myself. There is a chance they are hoping you will refund and they get to keep the item and won't bother returning it.

Do not forget to block them so you do not have to deal with them ever again.
  • If they claim the item is fake then technically they aren't supposed to send it back. They must prove the item is fake by taking it to its manufacturer or a retailer of the product and get a statement to confirm it's a counterfeit.
Their claim for item not received is now screwed so they can't really win that case now.
And if they raise a case as not as described they should have to prove it's a fake.
