Can I apply/hold more than one AmEx Cashback/Rewards card at the same time?

I've just completed a house move and re-organising finances.

I want to apply for the AmEx Platinum cashback card for the 5% bonus which I will use for household purchases until I get to the £2,500 and then I'll stop using it (going through Topcashback to cancel out the annual fee).

At the same time, I've seen the AmEx TrueEarnings (Costco) card which looks interesting to me for it's 3% on restarants/dining out (which will get a lot of use from me) plus it has 1% on virtually all other spending with no annual fee so seems a good "everyday" spending card.

Does anyone know if it's possible to apply for 2 AmEx cards at the same time?

(I already hold the Nationwide Select card but this gives 0.5% so I'll look to close this, and I also have a Halifax Clarity card which I tend to put the first £300 of monthly exps on for the £5 kickback which I will probably keep.)

  • There is no law against it - but only Amex can tell you if you will be successful.

I regularly have three Amex cards (direct from Amex) at one time. Costco one is my permanent card, the other cards I use for introductory bonus points / cashback then cancel.

Amex take a view on the total amount of credit they give you not per card, in the past, if one card has been given a very low limit, I ask them to reduce another card and put it on that one (assuming I need to spend that much in a month).
