Buyer fails to complete on our house purchase

Our old house and our new house are sitting empty whilst we are without our contents and don't know which house we are moving into. Our sellers stand to keep the deposit if completion never happens - a cool £160,000! I don't think they are worried!
Why agree to such a large deposit? Or are you buying a £1.6m house?0 -
No, but your buyers should be as you'll be claiming that back off them.Musketeer55 wrote: »..Our sellers stand to keep the deposit if completion never happens - a cool £160,000! I don't think they are worried!0 -
1) never complete on a Friday
2) if he's your neighbour could you not have had a chat a week or so before to make sure there were no complications looming....0 -

Yes, your maths are correct. We are buying a £1.6m house. The amounts involved are huge.0 -

Completion was arranged for Thursday, not Friday. I would never agree to a Friday completion.
I DID speak to him a week before and he CONFIRMED all was ok to complete on 5th.
He did, however, ask for some internal photos for 'insurance' purposes which I thought was odd.0 -
Whilst I completely understand why YOU are upset about all that (to say the least, truly it sounds awful), I don't understand why your 4 year old is upset too? It must be hard for you, but if you make it an adventure, it is like a holiday for him. For example, forget about healthy food for example, treat him with pizza/ pancakes lunch and diner for a couple of days, it can be a lot of fun for the little guy.
I wish you all the best, and hope it gets sorted, and remember that it does not have to be a drama for your boy at all.0 -

After the last poster thought it appropriate to lecture the OP on parenting skills, despite having no knowledge of what care the OP has given to her child, we will probably never hear."Beware of little expenses. A small leak will sink a great ship." - Benjamin Franklin0
