My wife wants a newish small automatic that's tax exempt

This says Hyundai i10 fits the bill

But auto trader filter does not show any cars that for this description????

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/used/cars/hyundai/i10/postcode/le113pw/radius/1500/price-from/500/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/sort/atcustom/transmission/automatic/r/3/annual-tax-cars/zero

Ignore my original comment (if you saw it).

I think the Autotrader search has gone a bit flaky as I got a zero hits return when I was expecting to see 43 cars at one point. However, I think your initial link isn't telling you what you think it is. Looking on the Parkers website the new 1.2 auto (the smallest engine listed) is £145, while the previous model's 1.0 auto is £130. The only model with zero VED is the new 1.0 Blue Drive which doesn't have an auto option.

Can still never understand why VED is a major factor in buying a car. The saving of £10/month is usually by far outweighed by everything else.

There are 2913 cars nationwide on Autotrader with auto box and zero tax. There's no simple way to filter that further to 'smallish' cars, it depends what you mean - small engine is easy enough to add, small size isn't. If you have a particular fuel type in mind that'll cut it down further, and of course you can add distance to reduce the number further still.

Of you check the article you'll see it suggests the Hyundai i10 is exempt from tax but auto trader search disagrees is my only point (not bothered about any other vehicle, just the reason for this particular riddle

VED depends on the emissions. Only one model of i10 gets below 100g/kg, and that's not an auto.

Aren't these new fangled "electric" cars tax exempt, like a Nissan Leaf?
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I never figured auto would make a difference but I guess that's the problem thanks

  • Yeah, autos are traditionally inefficient and wasteful of fuel. Fewer miles per gallon equals higher emissions.

Note this doesn't apply to many modern automated manuals.

Well it might be a good idea to amend your question to point that out and ask for suggestions of any small car, although arcon's comment is very pertinent, why is zero VED so important to you?

Not even that big a saving - the lowest tiers of VED are less than £2 or £3 difference.

Picking the wrong car for your requirements is FAR more expensive.

http://carfueldata.direct.gov.uk/ is the nearest you'll get to an authoritative list of VED bandings and CO2 for new and recent cars - but bear in mind spec differences can make a difference to CO2. The ONLY zeroVED autobox cars, according to that, are 2013-on Mitsu Mirage and 2014-on Toyota Aygo.
