I've been with loads of providers and have always used my btinternet.com email address. At no cost.

I always end up back with BT so it's handy :)

Probably not. I've been using my old BT email address without cost but they keep threatening to close it unless I pay they haven't yet but no doubt they will at some time.

Migrate your email to something like Gmail or Gmx. They will pick up emails from your BT account until everyone is aware of your change.
This way you won't be tied to any BB provider. Virgin will offer you email as well, but, it will still be better to use an independent provider.

I left BT over 10 years ago but still have my btinternet.com email. I have to pay BT £1.60 a month to keep it - never quite got around to changing it!

That's cost you £192 then-not very money saving. GMail is the way to go, takes about half an hour to do the whole thing.

Hi, my suggestion would be to stop using email accounts provided by internet service providers like BT, Virgin, Talk Talk etc and use a free web email service like Gmail, Outlook or Yahoo, which will remain with you irrespective of which company provides your internet service. Have a look at this article for a comparison of the web services available. If you do decide to switch, then you can always set up your new web email service to retrieve a history of all past emails and any new emails in your existing BT account using a feature called POP3 that is built-in to the free web email services.

I like the convenience of retaining my near 20 year old email address, and there's a reason I want to retain it that I won't go into here.

You're right though, it adds up but it's !!!!!! all really..
