Solicitors fees and stamp duty

Hi

Does anyone know if it is possible to pay solicitors fees and stamp duty on a credit card?

Thanks :)

  • Stamp duty - no.

Solicitors fees - you need to ask them, often they will ask for a surcharge.

Having said this, the solicitors 'fee' usually incorporates the SD, so I very much doubt credit card would be accepted.

    Hope that helps.

    it depends...

if you need a mortgage then you cannot pay stamp duty by CC as the solicitor acting for the lender is duty bound to ensure the SD is paid before the lender will release the funds. The solicitor will want that money in cash in their account on completion so unlikely to accept it on a cc

if you do not need a mortgage then yes you can pay the SD by CC since you can pay it yourself direct to HMRC within the 30 day deadline they require

as previous poster says, the solicitors fees depends on the solicitor accepting cc, I doubt many do

    fair point. thanks.
  • Ok that's interesting. I will not be taking a mortgage so perhaps I can pay the SD by CC. I will ask my solicitor about the other part.

    Thanks for your responses.
