Although I don't think it's paranoid, but sensible.
I remember when I set up my Paypal account a long time ago, they use to have as a verification procedure where they transferred a penny to your bank account which you then had to report back to ensure the account was set up properly.
If it's good enough for one the largest internet companies on the planet, then it's good enough for me!0 -

Not quite, it was a random figure of between say 1p and 10p, and you had to tell them the amount they transferred.I remember when I set up my Paypal account a long time ago, they use to have as a verification procedure where they transferred a penny to your bank account which you then had to report back to ensure the account was set up properly.0 -
