Good luck with airbnb ATB. We've used it on holidays for the last few years and really like it - I like that you can get a more personal feel staying in a place rather than a hotel.

Plus as a host you can do all sorts of (cheap) things to make people feel welcome. Our last stay in Edinburgh included the host buying us croissants on his way home from work. I couldn't eat them, but DH enjoyed them. :) Pretty cheap, but memorable for us.

KC - I've never quite understood MB, perhaps I should attempt to again. I have, however, signed up to Air BnB today :) and I'm now obsessively checking my emails for a booking :)
DD does Air BnB and gets on great with it - make sure you have plenty spare bedding and towels though!

Look forward to reading about your OP :T.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Just popped in to say Hi, seen the mention of Airbnb, thought about this myself - still thinking. and mention about matched betting - have not had a chance to read/understand this yet, think the reading of the ins and outs are for a winters night reading.

Look forward to reading you diary from the start, hopefully tonight as have to go shopping for a 60th pressie today.Wish me luck.

Well, one thing at a time, ATB - airbnb is a great little earner, much better than having a lodger, as you have so much more control about how often you have somebody in.

Great to hear about another OP - let us know when it goes through :)

  • How does AirBNB work if you have children? With the mess and the noise I think the people would be scared off before they even got through the door :D But also from a security perspective I don't know how I'd feel about it...

If it works though it would be a great little earner :T Do you live somewhere fairly touristy, ATB?

  • Thank you all for popping in lovely folks :) my get up and go has got up and gone today, I think it is hiding away somewhere with the sunshine!

I have however managed to vacuum downstairs, empty the DW and take the tiddlers to soft play so not too shabby. I am, however, too tired to trust myself to do any online banking so the OP will have to wait until tomorrow.

I am really hopeful we get some bookings on Air BnB. We live in GoC :D right on the doorstep of the Dales but also near to larger cities and towns such as York and Harrogate. I have priced our room at £23, which is around a fiver less than comparative rooms, to reflect the fact that we have kiddies. I have essentially asked for nighttime upstairs noise to be kept low post 8pm, which is fair enough I think, and added that people are welcome to sit with us for a drink and natter on an evening if they wish, or use the sitting room which is separate to our main living space in the kitchen / diner (where we hang out on an evening - we have a sofa in there). So we will just have to see what it brings, you guys will be the first to know that's for sure :):) xxx

Those sound like reasonable requests. :) Pretty much every time we've gone somewhere we've looked to have access to a kitchen (much cheaper to prep your own breakfast and/or lunch) and internet. Anything else is a bonus, as generally we're out and about during the day so not too bothered about sleeping conditions as long as it's reasonably priced/comfortable.
  • Thank you hiddenshadow :)

I'm more than happy to make guests a bacon butty as well, I make one for hubby each morning so whats another couple! Fingers crossed we get some bookings. I am stupidly cheery about this xx
