Direct debit date charge

Morning all,

I recently called Shawbrook whom I have a loan with to move my direct debit date.

I said I would be happy to pay that months payment and wanted to set it up for the 1st in line with my new job.

They said fine but it was going to cost me £21.00 to do so.

I've never been charged for moving a direct debit before and all the other commitments I had were fine about this change.

Are they allowed to charge for this?

Yes.

They can refuse to agree to it if they want. You're asking them to change a contract and it will cost them money to assist.

The only 'tariff of charges' I can find on their website is for commercial loans, and they charge £21/hour for additional 'work' on your account.


Maybe that's what it is?


I assume you've already checked your own loan documentation?
