In the end though I plumped for a 2012 Discovery 4. It felt like the most comfortable car and I have a longish journey coming up at the end of the month. If I end up crippled at the end of the journey I'll sell it and try something else.
Not a chance. My Discovery 3 is more comfy than my living room, and it has a better stereo :rotfl:
Long journeys no problem at all, 800+ miles stopping only for necessities is a breeze. (In fact I felt the same about the Discovery 1, despite others comments earlier)
You made the right choice, in my somewhat biased opinion, now just enjoy the car. There's a couple of Discovery specific forums out there, it's worth joining one of them and having a read around, though like most car forums, you can end up terrified you've bought a money pit :eek:0 -
Completely miles away from what your looking for but if it is just the higher position have you looked at the kia sportage? Seats were comfortable and was a really nice drive.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Wonderful pic.
I used to have a series 2 but prefer an auto these days and putting an auto box in a Defender didn't seem right so I started using Jeeps.
Can't wait to see the Defender replacement although a lot of the proposed designs look more like they've just added a Land Rover grill to the Jeep. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

And I've been trying to convince my wife that she wants an auto four door Wrangler as her next car.
It certainly won't be the embarrassing dog's breakfast that Fiat call a Renegade.0 -

Take her for a test drive in one, I'm sure she'll love it as it's very civilised on the road. That said it's still a basic ute and civilised is relative, better than a defender but not like a Range Rover. Of course basic to the Americans is Luxury to me.
Agree about the Renegade but it will sell. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
