Buyer asked to return item, now they've damaged it

Hi all, need some advice please.

Sold a t shirt as buy it now £15. A week after they'd have received it I get this message

"Hi dont mean to moan but the t shirt has a big ladder on the front jus t under the armpit. It is noticeable. I am gutted as it's only a t shirt and cost me £20. Can I return it and you refund me or you compensate? I will send a photo ipf need be. Thanks."

I thoroughly inspect items before I list them and list any faults but I accepted that I must have missed a small hole, so I asked the buyer to return & i'll pay the return postage.
Received a message yesterday stating its been posted back to me.7
Then this morning I received this

'Hiya I missed the post, but I have a confession. My friend saw the top on the side with the envelope I was sending it back in and asked to see it (the leader) she pulled it apart and joined the ladder up into a hole. It was a big ladder anyway otherwise I wouldn't have emailed you but now it is a hole the same size as the ladder. Am I still ok to send it back, it was unwearable anyway? Thank you.'

I asked please send it and I will repair it, now she says its not fixable without being noticeable. Are they just fishing for a partial refund here because they changed their mind or regret spending so much on 'a tshirt'? I don't really know what to say, she has basically just told me her friend has damaged the item even more than it apparently was.

Sorry for the long post but this is stressing me out :o

    Did she send a photo?
  • No she didn't, I just kept asking her to return it as I don't want to argue about it

Regardless of what she is angling for, just reiterate she needs to send it back, then make sure you block her from bidding on your items again.

If she doesn't send it back she doesn't get a refund.

  • Thanks Soolin, I've said that in every message, she now says she doesn't want a partial refund or even a full one, shes going to send me a photo and throw the item in the bin. Not quite sure what she wants? But I have a feeling she's going to leave me a negative :o

It's up to you whether you dispose if it, not your buyer. If they do not return it, they don't get a refund.
  • Thats what I thought, she can't get a refund for it if its not been returned to me, I don't understand what is so difficult about it, she said shes franked it already but missed the post :o

Having read threads on other forums here on MSE and on other boards I don't think some buyers know what they want at all.

They feel aggrieved and get all stroppy and yet when questioned they have nothing to say other than being righteous about the injustice done to them.

I'd stop bothering with them now they can only give you one defect, perhaps rather that than lose the money.
