Car Running Costs Website

Hi,

I'm currently considering building a website that will let users track costs for running their car, this will include all associated costs: tax, insurance, depreciation, fuel etc.

Does such a site already exists, I don't want to waste my time if there's something already out there.

I know of sites for checking fuel economy and smart phone apps.

Cheers.

Hi. Although I haven't looked at it there is a car cost calculator included on the money advice service website.

I would imagine your idea has sadly already been taken.
  • My thinking is that anyone interested in keeping such records will be doing so already.
A wee folder with all receipts for fuel and other expenses, perhaps even a spreadsheet to tot it all up.

There are 2 sites already which do that.

    http://www.spritmonitor.de

Don't be put off by the fact it's a German site - it is possible to set the language and units as you wish.

    The alternative is

    http://www.fuelly.com/

I found the German site better.
  • Hi,

You may find that motoriety.co.uk does similar to what you are thinking of.

Fuelly didn't have the other costs included last time I checked it out.

The German site looks to have potential but I can't see how to get it to show distances in miles, will have a play around.

True, but having a simple site to work out MPG automatically, remind when service/MOT is due etc would be handy.

  • That's what excel is for.
  • There doesn't appear to be a site that does exactly what I was looking for so I am going to code one myself. If anyone would like to use it, or just test it for me then please drop me a PM.

I already have one person testing it but more feedback is good.

    Cheers.

Far too many variables between different users of identical vehicles.

Had the misfortune to have to drive near the Jaguar plant in Birmingham last week. Fort Parkway. People who were walking out of the shopping complex made it to the Jaguar island before i did in the car.

Engine running and doing virtually zero mph and zero mpg for 20 minutes. 1 car length..stop...zzz oooh 2 car lengths...stop.... zzzzzzzz 1 ...

Then another 12 minutes to get to the motorway.

Do that everyday and even my diesel car will probably be about 20mpg.

Will your site have data for the roads, time of day and traffic conditions?

When i used to do the early shift i rarely spotted anyone else on the road.
