They can actually charge up to £10 for whatever reason they like - even just to cover the cost of the person who handles the SAR.
  • Hi all.

    Thanks for responses.

My friend wants the footage as he wants to put in a civil claim and - unbelievably - the assailant works at the same company as him and it is going around that my friend was at fault.

To those who asked what the catalyst was for the assault - if you mean my friend insulted the assailant's mother or spat in his drink - no, there was no provocation. If you mean the assailant suddenly jumped up and started punching my friend because the friend was about to take a picture of him and another work colleague laughing and chatting together - yes there was provocation.

But if he has already admitted it, and been given a caution, then surely there is no need for the footage even for a civil claim?

I suspect the CCTV footage is wanted to countermand:

10 days ago means it's probably been overwritten now. Doubt the pub would have kept it for over a week.

Best bet would be asking the police as they must have requested a copy.

If the guys admitted it though I don't see why you need the footage. If you show it at work to his colleagues then that's a bit out of order

Civil claim! Gone are the days when if you were unfortunate to get into a minor punch up on a night out you just took it on the chin (literally in most cases) and moved on with your life. The guy's been cautioned can't your mate just leave it at that.

Not if the assailant is slandering the OP's mate by insinuating that the latter was at fault.

very expensive court case - is it worth it? Why not just collectively bang their heads together?!

To be cautioned, there has to have been an admission of guilt.
It's sounding rather childish. Does it matter what the gossip is? He's admitted it.
