Damaged item - what to do

I've won an auction on ebay for an Xbox 360 with Kinect. Today the kinect arrived and it is damaged, it is loosely connected to the base and I can see some wires exposed. The Xbox is coming separately I assume so haven't been able to test it yet but even if it works it doesn't look like it will last long.

If the Xbox seems in good condition I would keep it but what do I do about the kinect? Can they give me a part refund?

Yes, they can give you a part refund. Get in touch with them by message first (don't open a case immediately, this counts against them even if they sort it out to your satisfaction and might make them less inclined to help)

If they don't reply within say 48 hours - give them a chance, they might have gone away for the weekend - or they don't want to know or are rude or whatever (sadly some sellers are) THEN open a case in the resolution centre. Explain everything, you can add photos to this and then ebay will contact the buyers and if they don't get a satisfactory reply they will decide what should happen next. You are allowed to put that you would like to keep the item and receive a partial refund in the case but do, please, let them try to sort it out with you first.

Most sellers dont like giving partial refunds so may just say return for a refund .Partial refunds are at the discretion of the seller.
As above message the seller first though without opening a case.
  • Be aware that if you open a case and accept a partial refund, you cannot open a case later if the item becomes faulty.
