Snapped coil spring

Hello all. This is my first post on here so apologies if it is the wrong place.
So I had an MOT and service done at my local Kwik Fit. They tried ripping me off with a few things along the way but I sorted these issues out.
The problem is this; My local trusted mechanic spotted my near side front coil spring was snapped in two places and had started to travel down the shock absorber towards my tire and brake pipe.
Do I have a claim against them as they should have spotted this issue during the MOT inspection. The spring has been damaged for a while as the sheared faces have rusting on them. I'll try put a picture up shortly.
Thanks

Has the broken spring led to other damage?
If not, there is no claim. You cannot claim for what might have happened.
You can of course claim that they should've failed your car and VOSA might be interested in that.0 -
They could rust in a day or two though0

An MOT is only as good as the day it drives out the garage, the coil could have snapped by going over a pot hole so you will struggle with this. You will find rusting on many parts of your car but surface rust doesn't make them faulty. The MOT tester will say it was fine on the day.
You could ask VOSA to look into it for you, but don't hold your breath unless there are many complaints against them.0 -
The MOT only means that the car was OK on that day, how long between MOT and your trusty mechanics diagnosis, why did you go to Kwik Fit if you have a tame mechanic?0

Thanks everyone. I understand your points. I only asked as when I showed told people about the issue a lot of them were saying you could have a claim against them for letting me drive the car unsafely. The rust was quite bad and the break on the first coil was about 10mm wide with crumbled pieces of spring/rust in it.
I used Kwik Fit as they are just up the road from me and I had a discount voucher from them. Not only that, my MOT ran out a few weeks before and I completely forgot about it. So I booked it in online for the next day.
My mechanic was fully booked for a week unfortunately.
Thanks everyone. Always worth it to hear others opinion0 -
VOSA? Now is DVSA surely.0

I'm more surprised KwikFit missed a trick here :eek:0
