All I can say is when we went up to the council offices the lady specificly said it was purely to do with having the same surnames yes there my mum and dad but it was the fact the surnames were the same
It's just an ill informed council person, it's got nothing to do with the surnames - do you really think it would be any different if you were a married daughter who had changed her name? It's the relationship that matters, not the names.0 -

whether you spend the "rent" on your mortgage or the 3:30 at Wincanton races the mere fact you want the taxpayer to fund your lifestyle is precisely why the system is designed to prevent thatIm not after the morgage being paid I just want rent from them In a nice way and I would never ever throw them out0 -

You have to show that your relationship as a landlord and tenants is a commercial one. ie. no different to any other tenancy so a tenancy agreement, your acting as a proper landlord including evicting them if they went into arrears/breached their tenancy agreement.
It seems that you could not prove that you all had a commercial tenancy and therefore the HB and CT support was denied.
Sorry, OP. I think your choices are fairly simple...
- Scrape deeper and continue to subsidise them as-is
- Move in with them (and rent out your current home?)
- Move them in with you, and rent this property out on a proper commercial tenancy
- Move them into a market-rent private tenancy from another landlord supported by the tax-payer, whilst you then rent this property to paying tenants
I'll leave it to others to better understand their pension entitlement. Did they spend their working lives in the UK, paying NI?0 -
If you are struggling to pay the mortgage, and meet your other commitments, you need to sell the house which would leave your elderly parents homeless.
Perhaps your parents should approach the council on this basis - in view of their ages, it may well be that they are eligible for sheltered housing.0 -
Why can the parents not pay towards their upkeep ? 13 rent free years whilst expecting their child ( or the state ) to pay for their home. Time they chipped in.Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...
