When should I cancel/how long will I have to pay for?

Hi hope someone can help

We have full package with Sky (TV, internet, landline)

We are going to be cancelling the landline and internet and keeping the TV.

We're no longer in a fixed contract with them & have taken out a contract with Virgin Media for their internet.

Virgin media internet is being installed 21/02 and we want to cancel sky as late as possible so as not to be without internet.

So - Will Sky end the internet subscription on the day we call them i.e 21/02 and if yes will they charge us another month?

I can't work out if we pay them in advance for the month (we paid bill 01/02 so does this cover us until 01/03?)

You may still need to give 30 days notice. Beware that the TV package maybe on a special offer thats linked to having the phone and internet.

Are Virgin putting cables in for the phone and internet?

So I can tell them tomorrow (or Monday if they're not open tomorrow) we want to cancel and they will still supply internet until 21st? (as said not sure if paying 01/02 means we've paid to cover up till 01/03)

Or we cancel on 21st and they cover until 21/03 and charge us another month?

TV is not cheaper as a result of having internet/phone so that will not cost more (we checked with them over phone)

Not having phone from Virgin just internet, we will need cables but I think they're already installed as old tenant had Virgin

Why don't you just call Sky and ask to be sure? As I understand it, if you cancel today, the 30 day notice period will begin and you will still have your sky internet + TV services until 8th March. The virgin TV and internet installation can still go ahead on 21st.

All assumes that VM actually install on the proposed date, it's well known not to happen but get delayed. I would give Sky notice once VM is installed just in case.

What, and pay for 2 lots of the same thing for a whole month? That's not very MSE. While i accept there is a small chance the VM installation may get delayed, it's unlikely it would be delayed by 2 whole weeks.

I assume you have never dealt with VM's incompetent sub contractors?

Well how about three months in my case due to various issues and failures to show.

Unless it's changed recently, bb and phone only need two weeks' notice, whereas tv requires a month.

Transfer of ADSL usually happens 10-14 days after notice, but I have no idea of the situation when going to Virgin's system.

    Thanks for your replies.

The possible delay is one reason I want to leave as late as poss to cancel.

We do need to call them & check its just awkward to call as i'm not named on account, OH always asks wrongs questions and never manages to note their exact answers! :naughty: & we're not in the house together [during call centre times] until 16th :(

Teddysmum im confused now I don't think I know what ADSL is lol? Sky internet is through phone line & Virgin is cabled so I thought it was separate.

As someone said its really not very MSE but I may just end up paying one last month of sky internet & the new virgin package!
