credit score off the chart, not my fault.

hello,

i am nearly in my third year of a divorce battle, my ex husbands actions has put my perfect rating off the charts, i need to find some where to rent shortly and i am told no one will rent to me because of my credit score.

we had a business partnership, his car that he used was in my name and so was the finance with black horse, he has had the car since i filed for divorce and now been given it as part of the settlement.
however he decided to stop the payments on the car even when he had signed court orders to say he would carry on paying, the car is about to be paid off in full and black horse have been involved all along and knew what was happening but do not seem interested in helping me reverse the damage done.

so the question is, is there anyway i can get my file put back as it was.
thank you
pyrah

I believe you can write to credit score agencies to explain any defaults that aren't anything to do with you.

I am sure people who know about this stuff and have lived it will be replying to you shortly.

I hope you are ok, it sounds like you have had a rough time.

Unfortunately the credit agreements are in your name, not his. Technically thats all that the finance companies and your credit file cares about.

If you had got the agreement moved over to your OH name then it would be easier to re-assign the defaults, unfortunately this is very difficult and all the finance company cares about is getting the movie form the person who signed the finance contract.

At present, your credit file accurately (I assume?) reflects your financial dealings with the finance company, is this true? (Ignore any agreements between yourself and your OH, the finance company is not pricy nor legally obligated to take that into account).
  • yes, it accurately reflects my financial dealings.

A credit check for rental purposes won't show your defaults.
They can only see public information - that is CCJs, insolvency etc.

Nobody sees your credit score the credit ref agencies sell you except you and the credit reference agency.

A rental credit check will have no way of knowing you have defaults and any 'score' that they do have will only be based on the public information - that is all they are entitled to see. Definitely.

They only way they will know about you have defaults is if you tell them, or if you show them a copy of your full credit report that you have obtained yourself.

You made the arrangement with you ex not Black Horse. So unreasonable to expect Black to extract you from a situation you created. This should have considered at the point you agreed your divorce settlement.

    Absolutely.

Many letting agents do their best to make you and their customers (landlords etc) think that the reports or scores they give somehow are based or derived or take into account and credit account defaults you may have.

    They do not.

As said, they are purely based on public record information and a lot of guesswork and statistical data based on the other details (like location, income) they have on you.
