Decent lip balm ...?

i have tried loads of lip balms over the years, but have not found one that i go back to. i find most of them to be quite gloopy and wear off easily.

here's a list of ones i have tried

Blistex (tub and tube)
Carmex (tub and tube)
Vaseline
Burt's Bees
Body Shop (tubs)
Boots own
Nivea

anyone got any recommendations?

Plain lard is about the best and cheapest lip balm of them all. Plus it has a load of other cosmetic/skin care uses. :)

You can also use bacon fat if you want something more tasty.

This one is lovely, but supplies of it are a bit hit and miss

You sometimes see it in independent health food shops and grocers.

Badger Balm unscented lip balm is also good.

I used to love the vanilla mint softlips balm, but they seem to have stopped making it :( You can get vanilla softlips on ebay from America but it's hideously expensive and not quite the same. I'm now looking for a new lip balm and so far I'm liking Hurraw, especially the coconut, chai and earl grey ones. Eos are quite nice too but I don't really like lip balms that you have to put on with a finger. I also like the Crazy Rumors ones, they have some really interesting flavours.

Maybe you're applying more than you need? I've used both Vaseline and Nivea in the past and applied lightly, so they were not at all greasy or obviously there. They still worked pretty well however and seemed to last ok.

Coconut oil is my favourite however, and it seems to soak in a bit better. Still, you don't need to apply lots for it to work.

These are some of my favourites, all a bit pricey as mainly natural oils not petroleum based, but because they hydrate they do last for ages.

Bobbi Brown in Silver tin. spf 15
L'occitane shea butter in stick form
The new Clarins Lip oil is amazing (Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil)
and Ultra Sun lip balm in stick form for the summer. spf 30

The less expensive ones made of mineral oil will generally seal in any moisture used under them, but do not in themselves provide hydration, that is why people have to keep reapplying them umpteen times per day.

    All trial and error unfortunately:(

I am using a Caudalie one at £6 at the moment. I only use after I clean my teeth so twice a day, a quick swipe and leave alone. If you are putting it on too thick of course it will wipe off. The cheap ones taste nice so you lick it off and have to keep reapplying.

I have used Burts before but wasn't mad about it.

Make your own, all you need is a nice clean pot, a little cocoa butter or shea butter and some almond oil. There is a good thread on this board.
