Ferroli boiler problems

Our boiler has suddenly decided to stop working and a load of water has leaked out all over the carpet!

The boiler is a Ferroli optimax plus with a 5 yr warranty I am 3 years into the warranty. So you would think no problem.

They finally sent an engineer out who has condemned the boiler and saying it isn't cover under warranty.

They are saying not enough inhibitor has been used so it is an installer error. The installer is saying the right amount was used and blaming the boiler.

Neither the installer or the company are helping obviously i need a new boiler but why should I be paying?

Your thoughts please

The installer is right, Ferroli are using dirty tactics. You should get the installer to write you a report stating they did use the correct amount of inhibitor but the boiler needed drained after the leak so the engineer has no way of knowing there was not enough inhibitor in the system.

It may take legal action through the small claims court but with your engineers report you should win easy enough.

Who did you buy the boiler from? If Ferroli refuse to honour the warranty, you may need to pursue the retailer.
  • hi thanks for the replys

the boiler was bought straight from the plumber but came from the plumb center. I think it is ferolli trying to get out of it as well.

but what do people suggest for the short term do i just go out and buy another boiler and get it fitted obviously not a ferolli boiler?

we have not had hot water or heating for a week

Here's a thought actually, a boiler needs a completed benchmark for warranty purposes, the benchmark is a record the installer uses to make sure everything is installed and working correctly. One of these values is the cleaner and inhibitor used. Have a look and see what your benchmark says regarding the inhibitor, it will have a value for the amount used, the bigger the system the more needed, then compare it to the manufacturers instructions to see what is needed for your system. A benchmark is required for warranty purposes.

I assume he used the benchmark to determined the amount of inhibitor was inadequate for your system. If I am correct then your installer is to blame.
  • Had the same thing with my Ferolli boiler.
After flooding for the 3rd time (2 years old by then) I had it ripped out and a Worcester Bosch fitted.

Ferolli were a nightmare to deal with and charged my credit card for every visit, always blaming the installer.

Our boiler came from Wickes, they too were as much good as a chocolate fireguard.
Tried to go down the sale of goods route but we needed the hot water and heating more than the money back on the boiler.

I have to advocate getting rid, repair it and it will break again.
    Worst boilers ever.
  • Hi.
I had this problem with this boiler. It kept losing pressure. Check the pressure gauge underneath the unit to the left hand side. Turn the left hand tap on full. Then turn the right hand tap slowly until you see the pressure gauge rise. Close the tap when the pressure gets to 1.5 bar.

In which case, you really need an independent plumber/boiler engineer to examine the boiler and give you a written report as to what caused the problem.

As you bought the boiler from the plumber, they are the ones responsible for providing the remedy so whether it was a boiler fault or an installation fault, your plumber is responsible.
  • My plumber uswd to use feroli boilers when he first worked for himself. In a short time he refused to deal with them any longer every one of them stopped working after between 3 - 12 months of use. Usually for broken thermostats and pressure faults. He told me to steer clear of them as they're very cheaply made. And italian so wiring faults are also common. The best value for money and quality aare the new Ideal combi boilers. He always uses these now and (touch wood) no problems thus far. And it's British made :)
