faulty TV what did I do wrong

I've just taken my faulty TV back to currys PC world, asking for my money back or a replacement. It was purchased 15 months ago and therefore I said it had not lasted a reasonable amount of time (using the SAD FART help from MSE) . They agreed that it had not lasted a reasonable amount of time, but offered me nothing other than I could pay to get it fixed. What did I do wrong? Surely they should have done something?
One slightly annoying thing was one assistant explained that the sales of goods act requires me to prove that the goods were faulty at time of purchase. Was he right? sounds like a ridiculous ask. Is there a good response to that question? All I did was repeat the reasonable amount of time.

The sales assistant is correct in that after 6 months it is for the customer to prove the fault is inherant you would need to find an independent engineer to write a report stating that and then go back to teh retailer armed with this and they should refund the cost of the report and provide a remedy (repair, replace or refund)0

Thanks, but is that the only option? It could be that the screen became faulty in the last week in which case an engineer would not be able to report an inherent fault. This does not seem to cover me for the reasonable length of time.0

You could have dropped or damaged it in some other way.0

An inherent fault simply means that it was present at the time of sale but only became apparent at a later date and it could be due to faulty or substandard materials or incorrect assembly.
For example, there could be a solder joint badly made which worked loose over time, or a wiring loom incorrectly routed which eventually caused a wire to chaff or break.
All that the independent engineer needs to do is to state what the fault is and that in their opinion what the reason for the failure was.0 -
If it all ends up that they want to refund you, they are within their rights to deduct an amount to cover for the amount of use ie 15 months for the use of the TV.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
It is 100% legit.
- If you want to pay for a repair then by all means pay it!
- If you want a free repair then you need to prove that it was an inherent fault, as opposed to something which was caused by misuse/wear and tear etc (they can choose to partially refund, or replace as well but it is at THEIR discretion as you have accepted the goods)
They are your only two options0 -
I suggest you do a search on google to see if this is a known fault on this model.0

Whilst accepting the general guidance re inherent faults etc.. i have successfully had a domestic appliance repaired without need for independent reports at approx 2 or 3 months out of guarantee.
In future,if its got a plug on it> John Lewis..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
