Hi, I brought a car the other day with the current holder bringing the car to me to cut the story short , When the doucument was signed i asked about the car tax cost and when it runs out.

turns out he didn't have any tax ? I got him to signed and date the time the car was handed over

There is no tax when you buy a car.

You can find out about the cost of the tax online.

I don't see a question in your post though....

If the car was SORN then it shouldn't have been driven to you in the first place.

True but not the OP's problem until the V5 is signed over. OP must then either tax it or make sure it is kept off road.

That's my point i cant declare a car sorn thats already sorn , But who would get in trouble for this?

    See above.

You don't have to declare the car SORNd unless you are not planning to tax it anytime soon. But you must make sure it's kept off road until you tax it

When you change the keeper and if it was SORN before then the existing SORN is invalid and it will need to be re-SORN by the new keeper.

I have done this in the past by completing a SORN form on the day I bought the car and waiting till I receive the V5 in with my details then I send it off. Not sure if that is the right way but I have never been fined yet.

Changing the keeper cancels any existing SORN declaration - the new keeper should tax it or SORN it. If you don;'t have the V5C yet you can SORN it with the V890 form available here - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/360126/V890_250714.pdf

The chance of being caught while driving an untaxed car a short distance to deliver it to the new owner must be pretty small, so probably nobody will get into trouble for it. But if someone does, it will be the old owner.

You don't need to wait, you can use the new keeper part of the V5 to tax it.

Since you bought the car the old sorn is no longer valid. If it was taxed then that also is no longer valid.

You need to tax or sorn the vehicle.
