Where do I look to find a good site to create a web site? I'm trying to help a friend out who is trying to establish her business and I said I would look into it for her. I have had a look online for free sites but I do not know which are good and also very user friendly as I am not the best computer minded person.
If I have posted this in the wrong place please tell me where I should post and I will move it.
Many thanks

one and one internet have a "website builder" thing.
You pay extra on their normal web hosting fees, and can use their templates to put together a basic site.
Their web-hosting is good, but I haven't tried the template option, as its not suitable for our business, but maybe worth a look:

strangely I was looking at this yesterday. Dont forget that you need to register a domain name as well . I help with an offshoot of a charity and wanted to be more 'out there' . We currently run a blog via wordpress and you do have the option of paying something around £12 a year for their web page also.
there are some places that have a package with domain name plus website set up for relatively cheaply. One I saw was £12 for first year but this went up for second year. I found another that was £36 for 3 years so will prob go with that0 -

If it's a registered charity that you're helping out with, a lot of the big respectable host providers offer free hosting,Vidahost, is a very good one to have a look at, or one of their sister companies.0 -
for a startup business, tumblr / facebook (if this type is allowed!) may be best and cheapest (fee!), and could also use twitter to spread the word..
do google still do blog sites? blogpost?Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -

I would say Wordpress is one of the easier ones to use for completely professional websites too! It's not just for basic websites. There are themes and plugins that let WP do almost anything an HTML site can do nowadays.Look at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?0 -
I agree with everyone else in that WordPress would be a good place to start. It's easy to use, there are many many themes and plugins available to help you style your site the way you want it without too much effort.
As an alternative, there is also Google Sites (sites.google.com). This is a free web site builder. It's more simplistic than WordPress but very easy to get to grips with and is what I am currently using for my own basic site. You could then purchase a cheap domain name and link it to your Google Site.0
