Where to sell designer clothes?

Hey everyone.

Wasn't sure if this was the right place to start this thread - apologies if it isn't.

When I was pregnant I got given a beautiful Moncler snow suit, with mittens/booties attached and a lovely hood. By the time my daughter was the right size to fit into it, it was summer, so we never ended up doing anything with it.

It originally cost just shy of £300 and so I was hoping to sell it. It has all the labels, original box, authenticity tag etc but I've never owned an item of clothing worth more than say £20 before so I've got no idea where to sell it. eBay has very high costs and if I'm honest I'm not great with it. I'm not going to get much at all from a car boot/Facebook.

Does anyone know any selling sites for this sort of thing? The second hand ones are still fetching £100ish on eBay, and anything we can raise with this would go towards my daughter's Christening this year so we'd like to get as much as we can!

Any help would be great :)

Thanks

I can't help with your question I'm afraid but your post is a good cautionary tale about buying expensive clothes for babies. £300??? Madness!

I don't really think there's a great way of recouping that kind of money on childrens clothes, people buying 2nd hand are doing so because they want a bargain! Ebay would probably be your best shot or you can see if your local area has a second hand children's clothes shop that will sell it for you?

On another note, why on earth was your child bought a £300 snowsuit in the wrong size for the right season anyway?! Gosh, I spent £40 on one for my DS that he only wore once or twice because it was too mild by the time he fit into it and I've hated myself ever since for wasting so much money! :o

  • I was fortunate as a child to be able to live abroad, Asia, in fact. Still have a few friends over there that happen to be doing very well for themselves - this was a gift from one of them. I suppose with having constant sun in their home country they hadn't thought about our weather issues over here haha.

I have certainly never spent that much on any item of clothing - it cost the same as my old, run down car!

It just seemed a shame with it still being brand new!

There are websites that specialise in selling second hand designer clothing but they seem far more hassle than ebay and IMO getting £100 for a childs snow suit is actually quite a lot.

I'd keep it and hope to have a winter baby someday.

  • I'd suggest ebay too. The fees might seem high but as you know, you wouldn't get as much at a car boot sale etc. Like new cars, designer clothes seem to lose much of their "value" a couple of seasons after they were first sold. I'm guessing that's where places like TKMaxx get their stock!

For any sort of internet selling, you need good photos. Better photos can mean the items fetches a better price! Detailed description of the item (but no long story about why you are selling, that can be off-putting), I am far less likely to buy something if it only has a single sentence in the description and doesn't give any details I may want to know.

Do you have any friends with babies that you could pass it on to, with the proviso that they pass it back if you ever have another baby that could wear it?

Well I certainly wouldn't list it now as we are slowly coming in to spring. If you can wait I would suggest you list in Autumn/Winter when there is going to be more interest in snowsuits.

No idea of the best place though. Maybe consider facebook selling sites in expensive areas like central or west London. I am on a chiswick selling site as I am local and people pay quite a bit more than the Acton one only down the road.
