Samsung Kies.... USB connection not working, help with photos :(

Can anyone help?
Basically my Samsung Galaxy s5 battery is not charging properly. Its got something to do with a connection in the phone not the cable. Apparently this is a common problem.

Ive only had it for 10 months so the shop said they will repair it for free but first I need to save all of my photos (all 2500 of them!!) and my contacts and a few other bits.

I was advised to do this via the Kies site which I have tried but as my connection in my phone is faulty it wont recongnize that I have inserted a USB cable!!

Is there any other way I can save all of my photos as apparently they will do a master reset and delete them all when it goes in for repair ? Thanks

Put an SD card in the phone and copy them across to it.

Kies over WIFI. But Kies is the spawn of satan... Even with a fully working phone Kies will say please connect the phone and not detected when you can browse the phone with Windows explorer.

Then you need to new Kies for the latest phones but thats not compatible with the older phones and the older Kies is not compatible with the newer stuff. Well done Samsung... Very clever.. How do you have an older and newer phone connected to one PC?

Can you tell how much I dislike Kies? Backup to your google account or dropbox?

When I had a Sammy phone I would every now again try to reinstall Kies just to see if I could finally get it to actually recognise the phone it was connected to.

    And it never did.

Copy the stuff onto SD or into a Google drive cloud folder.

Just connect it to your PC via USB and treat it like any other hard drive/memory stick....Navigate to the pictures (DCIM) and transfer them straight to your pictures folder.................No need for Kies to be used for any transferring.

Edit....Sorry missed the bit about the faulty USB connection. Is it just kies that does not recognise it? Or, does it fail to show up in your pc connections?
