Non-fault accident...letter from Questgate

Good morning all,

I was involved in a non-fault accident at the beginning of January.

I took my car to a Vauxhall bodyshop who use an accident management company.

The other driver admitted full liability and my car was repaired which is fine.

However, I was informed at the beginning by Vauxhall that my insurance company wouldn't become involved as the accident wasn't my fault.

I received a letter yesterday from a company called Questgate saying they have been appointed by my insurer (Hastings) to investigate the details of the accident.

I'm not sure whether this is legit and if so how/why Hastings became aware of the incident. I am worried this may affect my renewal costs or I will have to declare it in future. Is this right?

Does anyone else have experience of dealing with this company?

Thanks.
Gareth.

You have to notify your insurers of the incident, even if you are not making a claim. You can notify them "for information purposes only"

It may be that they have instructed Questgates to contact you as they have not been able to contact you. All insurers speak with each other and share claims data, so your current insurers will have become aware from this sharing of data.

It could be that there is a claim for injury being made by the other party or a passenger in that vehicle.

Co operate with Questgates and notify your insurer of this incident. But check with your insurer that they have instructed Questgates before you speak with Questgates.

Don't listen to "insurance advice" from garages. Vauxhall will have just pushed you onto the claims management co in order to receive the kick back for the hire vehicle etc.

You do have to declare this incident in the future, even if no claim is made on your own policy.

Listen to what they ask you when getting a quote "have you had any accidents or made any claims, regardless of fault over the last x years?" - Yes you have had an accident and yes you have made a claim- it matters not which insurer you made it against.

It is legit and better for you the none fault party, the incident will show on your renewal as notified fully resolved or words to that effect, in my experience it does not affect your renwal in a negative way.
