Cancelled Credit Cards on Credit Reports

in Credit cards
Hi all
I've been working flat-out on paying off my (too many:o )Credit Cards. I've paid off 3 altogether now, cancelling the last 2 of these a few days ago leaving me with just 4 cards now with smallish outstanding balances:j
I haven't applied for a new card for yonks(for obvious reasons) but want to get a 0% balance-transfer card if I can. I don't intend to spend on it(famous last words:rotfl: ) but intended to transfer the outstanding amount from the highest interest card/s.
Thanks for bearing with me so far! What I need to know is what appears on Credit reference files after a card is cancelled and how long does it take for any comments to appear? I don't want to start applying for cards only to be refused because they think I've too much available credit. This has happened before in the distant past. Would it be best to cancel some more of the remaining 4? I'm scared to do so in case I get turned down for a new 0% card as at least I have the cards available in case of emergency:eek: (even though I'm trying my utmost not to spend on them) and they've all got good credit limits too.
I hope someone can help. Sorry if my posting is as clear as mud but I know what I mean:rolleyes:
Thanks

Hello, someone more in the know than me will be along soon, but I'm believe it differs from company to company - some update quite regularly and others can take months to update.Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0
