I decided to look at renewing my house content insurance ( currently with Halifax) I'm currently paying £570 p.a. ( I know, I know) and have been with Halifax since 2002. I used one of the comparison sites and was shocked to see how much cheaper comparative policies were, including Halifax themselves. Like a lot of people I took the automatic renewal each year without looking at the market. However I phoned Halifax asking them to explain the difference in price ( x 4 more expensive) and was told that I in fact was underpaying by £8. I raised a formal complaint but as expected got a whitewash response and no real explanation of the massive price difference......do you think I'm wasting my time pursuing this further?
Many thanks....

yes you are. There is no wrong doing here.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Depends what you hope to achieve - if it's to get a 'real explanation' of the price difference you are wasting your time. Such a thing doesn't exist other than in whitewash terms.
If it's a lower premium then maybe you should go elsewhere if they won't offer you one.0 -
I would go elsewhere, I did after paying over the odds for house Insurance with Halifax for years I just let it run until a friend of mine told me it was expensive what I was paying and could save by going somewhere else.0

Do ensure it covers the same level as your old one, cheaper doesn't always mean betterSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

They've not done wrong by their rules (keep the shareholders happy) but I can see you feel peeved.
Show it in a way even shareholders understand & take your business elsewhere.
