cooperative travel package holiday

Hi im not sure i'm posting in the right place new to this, i booked a package holiday last july to bulgaria, and i had the whole package transfers extra luggage in flight meals, i had a phone call yesterday to say that the hotel couldnt accommodate us anymore, and was i willing to change the holiday to fly 2 days later from a different airport and stay at a different hotel, the new holiday is slightly cheaper but it isnt going to be viable as i picked those dates for a reason, what can i do the travel agent said if i pay £50 i can change for another date all together but surely i wont get the same deal as all the other months are more expensive, what can i do does anyone have an experience of this can i get what i paid already back many thanks

  • They should refund all of your monies paid if you cannot agree a compromise.
I would be asking some questions though - such as why should it affect the flight when only the hotel accomodation is unavailable?
Are there no other hotels available on the same dates?
Check out some hotels for yourself before going back to the CooP - use sites like Hotels.com for prices and availability.
  • I would definitely be asking questions. If it is a hotel over booking, why would they change your flights ? I am guessing an error has been made somewhere. Did you book online or with the high street shop ? Co-operative do not have their own package holidays as such unless it as what is known as a flexi package where they put the holiday together for you. Have a look at your original confirmation & see what it says. You do not have to accept anything that does not suit you & as such, should be refunded in full. Good Luck

thank you for your advice, i booked at the shop my confirmation says airtours confirmed and under the booking says the cooperative is acting as an agent for thomas cook all flight details shown may be subject to change, but surely that should apply to same day flights not over 60 hours later on a different day and a different airport, i've checked the flight i'm meant to be going on is still flying but the hotel i was staying at only has twin room availability so cant accommodate the large family room, they were trying to get me to go in same day to rebook the new holiday and when i called back said if i change it to a different time i'll have to pay £50, problem is i have a busy year sept i have exams oct i'm starting a new module at uni and i really cant afford to travel in jul and aug its so overpriced, so after having a few days to think about it and i dont want to commit to another holiday with them or go and sit forever and a day to find something suitable, and it's annoying me cos everyday this week i've had an email from them chasing the remainder of balance which is due on the 20th of feb, remainder of a balance for a holiday i cant travel on ...

I would point out to travel agent that your original flights are still available, and if you want to go ahead with the holiday you want these flights only.

Call the hotel directly and see if the room is available. If it isn't then either choose a different hotel or have a full refund. If it is then ask TA to book it as they originally should have done or get a price yourself direct, also get a cost of flights by paying direct. At least then you will know the breakdown of hotel and flight costings.

I think it sounds like the travel agent booked the wrong dates and is trying to find a way around it without it costing them money!!
  • Yes Im inclined to agree with Tamiami, it sounds like the travel agent has made the mistake. Stand your ground, if you do not have any look with the branch, speak to the company head office. Good Luck

If it is a proper TC package and as you say the flight is still there then you should be offered just a different hotel and it should be equivalent or better than what you have originally booked and if you don't like what they find you then you are entitled to all your money back. Have you checked your original confirmation that they did book you the right dates in the first place. I would go to a TC shop get them to price up your original holiday if they can then go armed with the info to the co op and say its still available and its what you want or if they can't get that then ask them what they can get and if you like what they find get all your money back from the co op and book with TC. Depending on which co op brand it is most are owned by TC now.
