Normally i try and given advise on the motoring forums but this time i'm the one needing some.

2006 Ibiza FR TDi

I noticed quite some time ago, if the car is sitting with the engine running but not moving after 10 minutes, the TCS (traction control) light would come on (meaning it's disabled) and pressing the TCS button had no effect
If i drove forward for 20 meters or so, it would go out and the button would operate as normal again. No biggie.

Now the TCS light will come on after 10 minutes of the engine running, regardless if the car is moving or not. The TCS button has no effect at all. Sometimes the light will go back off itself, but most of the time it doesn.t

If i switch the engine off and start it back up, then the TCS light goes off for another 10 minutes and the button works normally again.

I've checked for fault codes using the Torque app on my phone, but nothing showing.
Any ideas? (ABS light is separate and not affected)

TL DR;?

Traction control light is coming on after 10 minutes of the engine running. Help.

Get yourself a cable and copy of VCDS Lite. It'll be more diagnostic help even with the free-version restrictions.
  • Pre 2008 VAG engines have a known fault with the G201 sensor in the ABS pump. I had a similar issue last year with my '07 1.9 Leon, although on mine the light came on permanently.

I found something on a Seat forum which suggested that Seat would fix the problem free of charge so I called my local Seat garage and arranged to take it in for diagostics. They said I would need to pay for the diagnostic (£90 IIRC) but confirmed that they would carry out the repair for nothing if it was that particular fault. Happily it was so they fixed it gratis, and even more happily didn't charge me for the diagnostic either!!

I heard about that fault as well, but i think the symptoms on that were the ABS light came on as well but that's not happening.

Forums have suggested a faulty MAF can cause it as well

I had a fault like this on a vw polo but when the tcs light came on the car wouldnt rev,it had been to another garage and had had a new throttle pedal
A new throttlebody and they had also sent the ecm away to be tested.after having these parts fitted the and the ecm had no fault found being about £600 out of pocket the customer bought the car to the garage i worked at,i managed tk replicate the fault and within 2 days found a wire had broken between the throttle body plug and the ecm,i did a wiring repair ect and it was given back to the lady owner to try she came back 2 weeks later it had sorted it and a year on its still fine and never faulted since so maybe it could be a wiring fault?
