RAC car insurance.

My dad recently took out car insurance with the RAC. They asked for proof of no claims discount because the only vehicle he had driven a work van for the last five years.
So he got the company he works for to write a letter and he sent it off. they first queried if he was the sole driver (which he was) then after getting the company to write another letter they then said they couldn't accept it because it was a comapny van not a company car. He applied for the insurance over a week before it was supposed to start but they didn't tell him any of this until after it started (it started on 01/02/2015) and they told him the NCD was invalid yesterday.
Do no insurance companies accept No claims discount on company vans? Or is it just the RAC? Has anyone who has taken out RAC car insurance ever encountered this problem?
They wanted to charge him double the premium and tried to charge a £25 cancellation fee which they eventually waived.
The whole thing seems really suspicious and they left my dad in a bit of a hole and I disappointed with how they handled t.

This is the norm
See if a local broker (not swinton) can do anything to get some sort of discount0 -
Most insurance companies do this, not just the RAC.
I don't know the names of the ones that don't but if i remember there are a few.All your base are belong to us.0 -
OK guys, thanks for the replies. I posted on here because he said he went back to the office today and the guy that did the letter said he had not heard of any problems before.
If they are few and far between that makes it not as bad. I mean he has to pay a higher premium but at least when he picked the RAC he wasn't just unlucky, f most won't accept it.0
