MSE News: Tesco to launch Clubcard 'flash sale' – should you hold on to your points?

I am with Kev. I buy essentials as I need them and use Boost for bonuses. Why on earth would it concern itself with essentials? You cannot wait anything from 3 months to 2 years for an essential, can you?
As for quality, I but what I like and I like what I buy. In terms of value, I have always shopped offers and I am not complaining about how far my money goes in Tesco.
The flash sale is supplementary. Normal boost offers are still available. I appreciate the opportunity to pick up a cheap railcard to supplement the discounted fuel, the offer for which was recently extended.
PS I also increase the value of my pound by being a member of the Tesco Orchard panel. This may not last as I am bad at writing about what I have sampled, but so far I have received discount on gelataria, Finest products and Christmas gifts.Life is like a box of chocolates - drop it and the soft centres splash everywhere0 -

This was supposed to be the discussion.lidl and aldi don't have a tesco clubcard flash sale.
And that's the problem Tesco have got - which is why they're desperately trying to revamp the tired Clubcard scheme to try to convince people that Tesco is worth spending 30% more for your groceries with.
From the way this discussion is going, it looks as if they're not succeeding. Maybe MSE shoppers are too canny to believe that Clubcard points worth 1% (4% max) make up for another 30% on the final bill.
£150 pw spent at Tesco - £7800 pa
Much the same (probably better) at Aldi - £5500 pa
Saving at Aldi - £2300 pa
Tesco Clubcard points (even at an unlikely 4%) - £312 pa

The thread's gone a bit off topic :rotfl:
I get clubcard points for the capped £7.50 mobile phone contracts, it's nice to boost those points0 -
Discussions can cover a wide field - and frankly there's a lot more interest these days in Aldi, Lidl and Waitrose than there is in Tesco.

Maybe some MSE shoppers are cannier than thatand are happy to buy things at the over-inflated tesco price, using £x off £y vouchers because they carefully select items that price match against another store
i.e. you can spend £20, use a £3 voucher so only pay £17, get £10 pricematch against cheaper store, so you get the points on a £20 spend despite your overall shopping only "costing" £7
Getting 20 points (worth up to 80p) back on a £7 "spend" means you are only effectively spending £6.20 and not £20
I'll take that 69% saving over a 30% saving in Aldi/Lidl anyday
Of course you can sweeten the deal even more by adding in manufacturers coupons and cashback apps but my point is it is far cheaper to shop at Tesco that at Aldi/Lidl if you know what you are doingApparently, everybody knows that the bird is [strike]the word[/strike] a moorhen0 -

For most people, though, they don't have the time or inclination to shop on the basis of 'carefully selected' items price matched against other stores - they just want to buy the shopping they need for the day/week/whatever. That's expensive with Tesco (unless you have the time to do what you suggest) and you'll save at least 30% just by doing a straight, simple shop at Aldi or Lidl.0 -
I've switched to Aldi, but I still accumulate a fair few Tesco Clubcard points through doing all my spending on a Tesco credit card.
And as Aldi have started taking credit cards, I now get Tesco points on my Aldi shopping! I quadruple my vouchers for restaurant vouchers, so I'll be getting the Pizza Express deal.
I just hope they don't temporarily increase the trade in value for this offer but then drop it down massively the next day!0 -
..........diddly squat, apart from the countdown clock has now gone negative.
Cinema offer is still locked.0 -
still nothing ................:j Claimed £6400 PPI some more to go :j0
